Cambodia - Kingdom of Cambodia Banknote (2001 to 2008 Series)

This is the current series of Cambodia banknote which was issued from 2001 to 2008. There are a total of nine denomination notes namely 50 Riels, 100 Riels, 500 Riels, 1000 Riels, 2000 Riels, 5000 Riels, 10000 Riels, 20000 Riels and 50000 Riels. The lower denomination notes (50 Riels to 2000 Riels) illustrate the ancient temples or landmarks of Cambodia. The higher denomination notes (5000 Riels to 50000 Riels) depict the portrait of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk.

Angkor Wat has been well known as one of the most famous and best preserved religious temple in the world. Interestingly, this current series of Cambodian banknote has once again depicted the unique elements and scenes of its ancient architectural and historical wonder in the world. 50 Riels


This 50 Riels note was issued on 29 August 2002. The front features the portrait of Banteay Srei Temple emerges in the center with the sculpture of naga serpent and Norak Singhaand on the left and right sides. The reverse features the sluice "Tek Thla" located along the National Road No 3.

100 Riels


This 100 Riels was 9 August 2001. The obverse features the Independence Monument in the center and the lion statue stands on the right. The reverse features the view of a school and students going to their classroom.

500 Riels


This 500 Riels note was issued on 4 April 2003. The obverse features the Angkor Wat temple. The reverse features a scene of KIZUNA Bridge (Cambodia-Japan Friendship) across the Mekong River in Kampong Cham town.

1,000 Riels


This 1,000 Riels note was issued 6 January 2006. The obverse features the Victory Gate of Angkor Ttlm temple and the sculpture art of Banteay Srei temple printed on the top left. The reverse features the port of Sihanoukville.

2,000 Riels

This 2,000 Riels note was issued in January 2008. The obverse features the Preah Vihear Temple. The reverse features the padi harvesting which is an important agriculture activity in the country.

5,000 Riels


This 5,000 Riels was issued on 6 April 2001. The obverse features the portrait of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, the worship king. The reverse features a scene of antique bridge of "Kampong Kdei" in Siem Reap Province.

10,000 Riels


This 10,000 Riels was issued on 6 April 2001. The obverse features the portrait of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, the worship king. The reverse features a scene of the Water Festival in front of the Royal Palace.

50,000 Riels


This 50,000 Riels note was issued on 6 April 2001. The obverse features the portrait of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, the worship king. The reverse features an angle overview of the whole Angkor Wat Temple.
