Brunei $10,000 - The Highest Value Banknote

Besides Singapore, Brunei is another South-East Asian country that issues the $10,000 note which is one the highest face value in the world (approximately USD6,800). For information, Brunei and Singapore currency are at par exchange rate under the 1973 Currency Interchangeability Agreement. In deed, Brunei's first $10,000 note was issued during its 3rd Series in 1989; It was one of the biggest size banknotes with the measurement of 204mm x 134mm in South-East Asia countries.

It was on 28 December 2006, the first $10,000 polymer note was introduced together with its $500 polymer note by the Brunei Currency Board in conjunction with the with the 60th Birthday of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The front of this note features the portrait of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah with the red crest on the gold patch. The back features the Parliament building located in Bandar Seri Begawan.
